 Today we read the climax of the play “Fences.” I wanted to keep reading. I found the play boring at first, I wasn’t very interested in the plot or the characters. The climax has definitely gotten me interested though. I’m excited to read more on Friday.

 Today we took a test on Illuminate. We read a short story called “For the Love of Books.” I found this short story amazing and I wish there was more to it. I am a writer. I don’t write as much as I wish I did but the love for it is still there. I admire Rita Dove for her commitment to her writing and her perseverance when it comes to completing a book. I feel pretty confident in my answers on this assessment and am hopeful about my grade. 

 

 Today we continued reading the book “Fences” and continued our work on our character charts. In all honesty I was not engaged today. I am exhausted physically and emotionally which made it hard to pay attention. Despite that I still made comments with the class and worked on the chart. There was also a lot of tension in class today which made the environment somewhat uncomfortable. 

 On Monday we started reading the book “Fences.” The family dynamic in the book is interesting. I don’t prefer the main character Troy so far. He over exaggerates his stories and seems to seek attention. I don’t like how he lies in order to glorify his stories. He also says many sexist things and makes his wife uncomfortable with his crude humor. I like Rose and a sympathise with her when it comes to her difficult past. I neither like, nor dislike, Bono and I feel the same way about Lyons. 

 On Friday we covered the introduction to the book “Fences.” In all honesty i’m not very interested in ready a play write so this might be a challenge for me. I do, however, really enjoy this class and the discussions we have, so i’m hoping i will still be able to stay engaged. Friday was also a difficult day for me so I may have just been in a pessimistic head space. I am interested to see how Monday will go as well as the class time we spend reading this book. 

 

 In class we took an assessment/quiz on Illuminate. This assessment was about the short story, “The Rockpile.” I had to rush to complete this and found myself stressed. I was disappointed with my score but am also understanding of why I got the score I did. Reviewing the questions I got wrong was really helpful.
